Fuel cell drives from Proton Motor for maritime mobility
The German hydrogen fuel cell producer Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH (www.proton-motor.de) enables ship and maritime manufacturers to realize climate-neutral fuel cell drives. The company specializes in modular systems using graphitic bipolar plates, as only these meet the technical and commercial requirements of the applications. Due to very high fuel cell performance in conjunction with modularly scalable systems, every performance requirement can be achieved.
Emission-free "Made in Germany" quality since 1998
We supply complete systems with our self-designed fuel cells including control and software with the common communication interfaces as "plug & play". Optionally, a coordinated DC-DC converter can be integrated into the system scope of delivery.
The company, which has been operating successfully internationally since 1998, has settled all areas – hydrogen fuel cell development as well as series production and testing – at a location near Munich in Bavaria. With over a hundred employees, quick-witted and flexible structures are also guaranteed.
Lighthouse projects such as fuel cell ferry in Hamburg
Proton Motor is optimally positioned for the future as a reliable supplier of alternative "green" drive technology. It has established itself in many lighthouse projects for maritime applications. Currently, the company is in a new project with the leader in electric mobility on water, "Torqeedo GmbH", to develop a marine hydrogen hybrid system building kit. It is also working for one of the world`s largest shipbuilding groups based in Trieste, "Fincantieri S.p.A.". Moreover, Proton Motor was the world's first fuel cell system provider that has powered a passenger ferry in Hamburg for six years between 2009 and 2014 with a 50 kW fuel cell system.
For further growth and specific orders, tailor-made fuel cell solutions are to be implemented with innovative ship and propulsion manufacturers. Proton Motor also prepares the way to emission-free maritime mobility for ship manufacturers that do not have extensive engineering resources.

For more than 20 years, Proton Motor has been Europe`s expert in climate-neutral energy generation with cleantech innovations and in this field, it has specialised in emission-free hydrogen fuel cells developed and manufactured in-house. The corporate focus is on stationary applications such as emergency power for critical infrastructures and mobile solutions such as back-to-base applications. In addition, the customised or standard hybrid systems are used in the automotive, maritime and rail sectors.
